What happens at a back pain appointment?
Your doctor asks when the pain started, where you feel it, and which activities make it better or worse. Share any previous injuries, relevant medical conditions, medications, and care you have already tried. An examination helps determine whether chiropractic care is a reasonable option or whether you need another evaluation.
Tell us what back pain keeps you from doing
Is sitting through a workday difficult? Does lifting, getting out of a chair, or walking bring on discomfort? Tell Dr. Keith or Dr. Jordan which movements matter most to you, when symptoms began, and what has changed. A description of your daily activities helps make the conversation more useful than a pain score alone.
Can chiropractic care help lower back pain?
Spinal manipulation may offer modest improvements for some people with low back pain. It is one option among several, and results vary. Your doctor will discuss the potential benefits, risks, and alternatives in the context of your health history.
What might your plan include?
Our practice uses a gentle, low-force approach. Depending on examination findings, your doctor may discuss hands-on care, soft tissue work, stretches, or exercises. Tell us which daily activities matter most to you so that recommendations and follow-up conversations address your goals.
What about pain traveling into a leg?
Describe any leg pain, tingling, or weakness when you call and during your visit. These symptoms need assessment; they do not identify a diagnosis by themselves. Seek urgent medical care for new loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness around the groin, or rapidly worsening weakness.
How many visits will I need?
A webpage cannot determine the number of visits appropriate for your back pain. After your examination, ask your doctor what the proposed follow-up is intended to achieve, how progress will be assessed, and when the plan should be reconsidered. Discuss expected costs with the office and your insurer before proceeding.
Before your visit
Bring relevant reports you already have and a list of questions. Imaging is recommended according to the individual situation, rather than automatically for every patient. See our appointment FAQs for insurance and paperwork details.
